Guardians of the Apus

This trip will take us to the heart of the Andean culture.

Arrival in Cusco, pick-upfrom Velazco Astete Airport and transfer to hotel. Rest in the morning to acclimatize. Lunch. In the afternoon we make a tour of the city center on foot, then we visit the Cathedral, Koricancha (Temple of the Sun), and finally the artistic district of San Blas. Then we will meet and have an introductory talk about our trip. Free time for dinner and overnight in Cusco.

Depart in the morning from Cusco to the Sacred Valley, by the Urubamba route accompanied by the spectacular scenery of the Cordillera of Urubamba, the snow and traditional farming fields. On the way, visit the town of Chinchero, located in the high pampa and famous for its artisans, there will begin to discover the textile art of the Andes. Later, we pass the picturesque town of Maras, and visit the Incas salt, where we will have a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we arrive to Ollantaytambo, where we visit the fortress, and in the evening the Inca people, still alive and full of stories and myths. We will settle on "El Albergue", where we will spend the night.

We will depart on the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and climb in bus to Machu Picchu. The guide will be our interpreter and we can enjoy a magical location and the energy. Lunch in Aguas Calientes and take the train back to Ollantaytambo. Dinner at the "Mayupata" restaurant and overnight in "el Albergue".

Well rested and after breakfast, we will travel around the Sacred Valley to reach Amaru indigenous community, located on the heights of Pisaq. This day will participate with members of the community in an interactive workshop, where we will discover the different stages of the traditional cloth from dye plants harvest, to the use of "away" or backstrap loom. An excellent opportunity to share the culture and ways of life as well as vision and expectations for the future. We return to Cusco, where we stay overnight. Free time for dinner.

It will be a fun morning, we start the day touring the Central market of Cusco, where we will see the reality of a town, a variety of colors, food, agriculture, medicine, crafts, clothing, customs, rituals in the area, among others. Next, visit the ruins near Cusco, culminating in Sacsayhuaman, amphitheater and popular center of worship and multipurpose for the Tawantinsuyo. Outdoor picnic with a special view of Sacsayhuaman and Cusco with local music animated by some local artists. We will have the option to get off the bus, or go walking. Free afternoon and evening. Overnight in Cusco.

This two-day trip will take us to the heart of the high Andean culture, discover glaciers, lakes, native cultures, llamas and alpacas, and see how native people interact with their environment, which despite not being very far from the city have preserved traditions and ancestral lifestyles. We will participate in the trasquile of alpacas and spinning the "pushca". We can appreciate the difference of the fabric and iconography of the area with the ones we saw in Chinchero and Amaru, each with its magic. We bathe in the thermal waters and will be charging our energy from the glaciers. Food and lodging will be in the hands of members of the community who have been preparing for our visit. The second day we will return and overnight in Cusco. We will have free time for dinner or might organize a farewell.
